Slate roof repairs

A slate roof usually fails at its fixings long before the slate itself wears out. The nails holding each slate corrode over the decades, which is known as nail sickness, and the slates start to slip. Storms loosen others, and a slate cracked by someone walking on the roof lets water straight through.

Signs to look for are slates on the ground or in the gutter, gaps or slipped slates on the roof, and staining on the ceilings upstairs.
