Who we are

Rated Roofers & Builders Ltd is a roofing and building contractor working across Surrey and South London. You can reach us on 07950 188 685 or at info@ratedroofersandbuilders.co.uk. For data protection purposes we are the data controller for the information described here.

What we collect, and why

The only information we ask you for is what you type into the enquiry form: your name, phone number, email address, an optional postcode, the type of work you need and your message. We use it for one thing, which is answering your enquiry and quoting for the work. We do not sell it, and we do not add you to a marketing list.

Separately from that, visiting any website leaves a technical trace. Our hosting keeps short-lived server logs that include the IP address your request came from, the page asked for and the browser used, which is how the site is kept running and secure. If you accept analytics cookies, the section on cookies below explains what else is then recorded.

Our lawful basis

We handle the details you send us on the basis of legitimate interests: you have asked us for a quote or for advice about work on your property, and we cannot reply without using what you gave us. We only ever use it to answer that enquiry and to keep a record of the job.

We do not use it for marketing, so there is nothing here you need to consent to and nothing to opt out of. If you would rather we stopped using your details, or you object to us holding them, say so at info@ratedroofersandbuilders.co.uk and we will stop.

Where it goes, and who else handles it

Enquiries are delivered by Web3Forms, a form-to-email service, and arrive in our inbox. Web3Forms processes the submission on our behalf and stores a copy in our account. Their privacy notice is at web3forms.com/privacy.

Three companies handle information on our behalf, and no others:

• Vercel hosts this website. Every page you open passes through them, and their server logs record the IP address, the page and the browser.
• Web3Forms receives the enquiry form when you send it, which includes the IP address it was sent from.
• Google provides the analytics described below, and only if you accept them. Nothing goes to Google Analytics if you decline or simply ignore the question.

All three are based in the United States, so information reaches them there. That transfer is covered by the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or by the standard contractual clauses the UK government approves where a company is not certified under it. We do not send your details anywhere else, and we never sell them.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry emails for as long as we may need them for the job and for our own records, and no longer than six years, which is the period a contract dispute could be raised in. Ask us and we will delete yours sooner.

Cookies and measurement

We ask before we store anything. The first time you arrive, a small bar at the bottom of the screen asks whether you are happy with analytics cookies. Until you answer, and if you answer no, nothing is stored on your device and you are not counted as a returning visitor. Saying no does not stop any part of this website working, and we do not ask again on every page.

If you say yes, we use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager. It tells us how many people visit, which pages they read, how they arrived and roughly which part of the country they are in, so we can see which pages are useful and which are not. It does that using cookies, which are small files your browser stores.

We never send it your name, phone number, email address, postcode or anything you typed into the enquiry form. When an enquiry sends successfully the site records that an enquiry happened and what kind of work it was about, and nothing that identifies you. We do not use any of this to advertise to you on other websites.

You can change your mind at any time. Use the “Cookie choices” link at the bottom of any page and the bar comes back, so withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing was. Separately, every browser can block or delete cookies in its own settings, and Google publishes an opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you (access), ask us to correct it (rectification), ask us to delete it (erasure), ask us to restrict what we do with it, object to us holding it at all, or ask for it in a portable form. Email info@ratedroofersandbuilders.co.uk and we will respond within one month. If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
